Do you prefer to flirt by text than face to face?

 

Almost a third of UK mobile phone owners aged between 18-44 are more likely to flirt by text than in person.

One in three UK mobile phone owners aged between 18 and 44-years-old are more likely to make eyes with someone via text message than in person.

The popularity of flirting by text increases with those aged between 18 and 34, with around a third of 18 to 24-year-old and 25 to 34-year-old mobile owners most likely to attempt to titillate potential partners via text.

This is according to an online poll conducted by mobile phone insurance company insurance2go via research and consulting organisation YouGov, which surveyed 2,002 mobile phone users from across the country.

Duncan Spencer, managing director of insurance2go.co.uk, said: “Texting offers people a way to flirt with someone they may be attracted to without the danger of feeling embarrassed if their advances are not reciprocated.

“Mobile phones, particularly smartphones, have become so much more than just something to use to make a call - now people’s whole lives revolve around them, and that includes their most intimate feelings.”

According to Spencer, more of us are now insuring our handsets because of this: “People feel like they’ve had their right arm cut off if they end up losing their handset - and some might not want to put a budding romance in jeopardy!”

The survey results found that mobile phone owners in the West Midlands are most likely to try tempting one another with texts, with nearly a quarter doing so, while East Midlanders were next in line with 22% preferring to seduce via SMS.

The north-west came in third, with 20% more likely to text flirt, followed by Yorkshire and the Humber (19%), Scotland (19%) and London and the south-east (both 18%)

Those in the east of England prefer the traditional method of getting fruity, with 46% of mobile phone owners more likely to flirt face to face than via text message.
