If you weren’t lucky enough to receive an invitation to the upcoming royal wedding but still want to know all the latest on the pomp and ceremony, then a mobile phone is your next best option.

Admittedly there isn’t a smartphone in the land able to sneak you a slice of the couple’s wedding cake, but our three inventive ways of enjoying the royal wedding on a mobile phone will ensure you feel as though you are sitting in the aisles on the big day.

Royal wedding smartphone apps

Wills & Kate: A Royal Love Story - A app that gives you a “quality photographic 10-chapter storybook” following the couple's relationship from their first meeting at St Andrews university through to their royal engagement.

WeeMee Royal Wedding Countdown - Cartoon William and Kate figures will ensure you don’t forget the big day by counting down the remaining number of days, minutes and seconds until they exchange vows at Westminster Abbey on 29 April.

Royal Wedding Video App - Stay up-to-date with all the latest news and gossip surrounding the royal wedding with this handy app featuring royal-related news stories, videos and more.

Watch the royal wedding on your smartphone

If you won’t be at home when the pair exchange vows then watching the wedding itself without making past Westminster Abbey’s security guards could prove pretty difficult.

Thankfully ITN - publisher of the Royal Wedding Video App (above) - has promised that its smartphone app will be updated before to big day so that you can “watch the event live on your phone for free”.

Alternatively, you could watch the royal wedding back at your convenience by viewing it on any of the numerous catch-up TV services, such as BBC iPlayer and the ITV Player.

If you’re a Sky or Virgin subscription TV customer then try setting your Sky+HD box or Virgin Media set-top box to pre-record the wedding’s live broadcast.

Alcatel’s OT-209 Royal Wedding mobile phone

The Alcatel OT-209 Royal Wedding mobile may not come pre-loaded with a free ticket for the big day itself, but it does have a Union Jack design on the front and the couple’s initials emblazoned on the back.

The phone’s default ringtone is none other than Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March”. One will also receive a royal wedding wallpaper theme for the phone.

Monarchy enthusiasts can pick-up the Alcatel OT-209 Royal Wedding mobile phone on pay-as-you-go and pay-monthly contracts.
