The latest ‘Google phone’ can now be purchased in white as well as black.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is available in white as well as black in the UK from today.
The black version of the smartphone, the third search giant Google has produced in conjunction with a mobile phone manufacturer, has been available in this country since 17 November.
Simon Stanford of Samsung’s UK and Ireland telecommunications and networks division, said: “After much speculation, we are pleased to announce the availability of the Galaxy Nexus White which follows the great reception the phone has received since it was launched back in November.
“One of the things we at Samsung pride ourselves on is the choice we offer customers, and we've enjoyed huge success to date by introducing white variants of our most popular models to our product portfolio.”
The Galaxy Nexus is most notable for being the first phone powered by Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of Google’s Android mobile operating system.
Ice Cream Sandwich has a new user interface, supports near field communication (NFC, the same technology used by Oyster cards on London Underground) and uses a font especially designed for use on high-definition (HD) displays.
This is ideal for the Galaxy Nexus as it is the first smartphone to have a 4.65in high-definition Super AMOLED (which makes it brighter, more energy efficient and less affected by sunlight) display with a resolution of 720p - “progressive HDTV”.
Ice Cream Sandwich also introduces Face Unlock, an unlocking system that uses facial recognition technology, is integrated with Google+, Google’s social network, and makes multi-tasking easier.
The handset itself has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, which is faster than that of the iPhone 4S, a five megapixel rear camera, a front-facing camera for video calls and HSPA+ technology, which means it can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi hotspots more quickly.
