Chinese mobile manufacturer's new flagship smartphone will be available in a few months.

The Huawei Ascend P1, the new flagship smartphone from Chinese mobile manufacturer Huawei, will go on sale in the UK this summer.

Huawei has announced that the handset will be available in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia from May, Latin America from June and Europe after that.

Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei Device, said: "The global availability of the Ascend P1, which combines smart features and a sexy design, represents a significant milestone for Huawei Device.

“We are sending strong signals of our intention to transform into a consumer-facing brand and extend our market leadership globally by strengthening our range of flagship products.”

The Huawei Ascend P1 was originally unveiled at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, which took place in Las Vegas back in January.

Huawei claims the Ascend P1 series - completed by the Ascend P1 S, which it describes as the "world’s slimmest" smartphone - provides the "fastest multi-tasking, video replay and gaming experience" of any device in its class.

The Ascend P1 is powered by a dual-core 1.5Ghz processor, almost twice as powerful as the A5 processor in Apple’s iPhone 4S, and uses the latest version of Google’s Android mobile operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich.

It also features a 4.3in super AMOLED touchscreen, which is almost an inch bigger than that of the iPhone 4S. Super AMOLED technology makes screens brighter and reduces sunlight reflection as well as minimising power consumption.
