HTC smartphones put the world in your pocket - but with five new killer models to pick between, which HTC smartphone is right for you?

HTC smartphones are cool, sexy and crammed with features, so it’s understandable that many people see them as the only real alternative to Apple’s mighty iPhone 4 when considering which new phone to buy.

If you’re thinking about buying your first HTC smartphone, or upgrading your old one, then there’s probably only one thing standing in your way - choice.

Unlike Apple, HTC offers plenty of great phones, so it’s essential that you compare HTC smartphones to find which one best fits your needs and personality.

HTC Incredible S

Who should buy it?: Someone who lives most of their life online, be it through Facebook or Twitter, by downloading music or simply by checking their emails and bank account online. The HTC Incredible S is a top-end smartphone that’s ready for anything.

Best feature?: The Incredible S takes the best bits of HTC’s previous smartphones and crams them into one eye-catching design. You’d be hard-pressed naming a single killer feature on this phone, because it’s more of a great all-rounder.

Worst feature?: The lack of a dual-core processor means the phone’s performance could seem sluggish while, say, opening apps or playing videos and simultaneously downloading files.

HTC Wildfire S

Who should buy it?: Someone who needs a light and pocket-friendly smartphone that won’t break the bank when bought on pay-as-you-go, or a pay-monthly contract.

Best feature?: The Wildfire S was made for social networking, allowing you to update and share messages and content over the likes of Facebook and Twitter quickly and simply. Your friend’s latest Facebook status will also be automatically displayed when they call you - a handy icebreaker.

Worst features?: The sub-par 600MHz processor - most smartphones have 1GHz - means this phone isn’t built for high-resolution games and videos. Simultaneously running apps and other tools could also be a problem.

HTC Desire S

Who should buy it?: An existing HTC Desire owner, or someone who never got around to buying it, and now wants to have the latest Desire model available.

Best features?: The Desire S is slightly slimmer and lighter than the original. Its bodywork is also stronger and harder wearing because of its single “unibody” design. The smartphone can even record high-definition (720p) videos.

Worst feature?: The 5Mp camera may not prove sharp enough if you hope to replace your digital camera with a smartphone.

HTC ChaCha

Who should buy it?: Facebook addicts.

Best feature?: The phone has a Facebook button that lets you share just about anything on the social networking site with a single one click. Just taken a photo? Simply press the button and it’ll be instantly uploaded onto the site.

Worst feature?: The combination of physical keypad and touchscreen means the phone’s touchscreen isn’t actually that large - just 2.6in. This could mean you’ll have to squint at YouTube videos and webpages.

HTC Salsa

Who should buy it?: Facebook fans also looking for more traditional smartphone features.

Best features?: Salsa can upload content to Facebook in a single click, like the ChaCha, but if your world extends beyond the social networking website then you’ll also love the smartphone’s large touchscreen, upgradeable memory and support for a wide variety of music formats.

Worst feature?: The slow processor - just 600MHz - might cause you problems when trying to do several things at once.
