HTC One X smartphone price is £499

The HTC One X, HTC One S and HTC One V smartphones will all cost less than £500 sim free, it has been revealed.

How much will the HTC One X cost? That's been the question on everyone's lips since the Taiwanese manufacturer showed off its new range of smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month.

According to the Expansys database - usually a reliable source of pricing information - all three of the HTC One handsets will cost less than £500 sim free. The top-flight HTC One X is priced at £499, while the mid-range HTC One S and lower-spec HTC One V will cost you £415 and £250 respectively.

All three HTC One phones will run on Sense 4, HTC's latest take on the Android operating system from search giant Google. But despite their software similarities, the HTC One X, S and V have widely varying specifications.

The HTC One X is powered by a quad-core processor - the mighty 1.5GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 - and boasts a massive 4.7in display supporting high-definition (HD) 720p resolution. Peter Chou, chief executive of HTC, calls it "the beast".

Meanwhile, the HTC One S, which is slimmer than its big brother - measuring 7.8mm in thickness compared to the 8.9mm HTC One X - uses the same 1.5GHz chipset but packs half the amount of storage space (16GB) and has a smaller 4.3in screen.

Finally comes the HTC One V, a "budget" version of the highly anticipated smartphone. It's powered by a smaller, single-core 1GHz processor and just 512MB of RAM - compared to the full 1GB in both the HTC One X and S - and the screen is also notably smaller, measuring 3.7in across.

The HTC One does not yet have an official release date, but it is likely to arrive within the first half of 2012. Contract prices and sim-free handset costs will vary between retailers and providers.
