Samsung confirms an Android 4.0 ICS update is making its way to Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab devices.
Mobile manufacturer Samsung has announced that its Galaxy portfolio of smartphones and tablets will soon be upgradeable to the latest version of Android.
Rumours had circulated online that an update to Android 4.0 - better known as Ice Cream Sandwich - for the Samsung Galaxy S II was imminent, but now it's been confirmed on Samsung Mobile's official Facebook page.
The announcement revealed that an update would reach Korean users and European markets first, but is expected to arrive in the UK within weeks, if not days.
Samsung said: “We’re thrilled to announce that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be served to Galaxy S II users in the European countries including Poland, Hungary and Sweden, as well as Korea today - and gradually rolled out to other markets.”
It also said that Ice Cream Sandwich for the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S II Lite, Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 would also “follow soon”.
In addition, there will be Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrades for the Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab 7, Galaxy S Plus and Galaxy W from the end of March. Samsung warned that the exact schedule would vary by market and individual networks' requirements.
Android 4.0 is the latest version of search giant Google’s mobile operating system. It brings a range of software improvements and a number of additional features, such as resizable widgets and more efficient text input and spell-checking.
