Vodafone mobile
On 1 January 1985 Vodafone made the UK’s first mobile call and today it has more than 18 million mobile phone customers and country-wide coverage.
Vodafone (www.vodafone.co.uk) offers a huge range of mobile phone deals, with contract packages, pay-as-you-go phones and even sim-only tariffs if you want to keep your old mobile phone.

It has 99% coverage across the UK, but if you don’t get good reception in your home, because you live in a basement for example, Vodafone is the only provider to offer a signal booster, the Vodafone Sure Signal. It connects to your home broadband router to boost the mobile coverage in your home.
It also offers a range of other products, including mobile broadband, home broadband and mobile internet.
Vodafone mobile coverage
Vodafone's mobile network coverage reaches 99% of the UK and also one of the fastest 3G networks. Its HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) network offers 3G connection to 81% of the UK, with speeds of up to 3.6Mb and 7.2Mb. Some major cities have even been upgraded to a theoretical maximum of 14.4Mb - the fastest mobile broadband headline rate.
However, Vodafone has warned customers that even in these areas, they should “expect to see typical speeds of anything between 1Mb and 4Mb, with a practical maximum speed of 10.8Mb”.
Vodafone bundles
As well as its huge range of mobile phone deals, which can be bundled with mobile internet plans, Vodafone customers can also sign up to mobile broadband and home phone broadband packages. The provider also supplies landlines, so if you take its home broadband you will pay line rental to Vodafone rather than your existing supplier.
