Manufacturer's first own-brand tablet will soon arrive in Britain.

Chinese mobile maker ZTE has announced it will soon launch a new tablet in the UK.

The V9A Light Tab II will be the first own-brand ZTE tablet available to British consumers. Running on Google's Android 2.3 operating system, better known as Gingerbread, it has a neat 7in touchscreen and speedy Qualcomm processor.

Weighing in at just 402g, it weighs 1g less than the original V9 Light Tab - released in 2011 - and is considerably lighter than Apple's iPad 2. It comes preloaded with popular apps including YouTube and Google Talk, along with battery life enabling more than five hours of movie playback.

Wu Sa, director of mobile device operations at ZTE, said: “The V9A Light Tab II is ZTE’s first own-brand tablet made available in the UK - and we are very excited about its entry into the market. We plan to continue our progress in the UK, introducing ZTE-branded consumer devices with key capabilities at reasonable prices.”

“Our UK strategy is very much focused on providing quality devices - a factor which is apparent through our growth and development in the handset arena,” he added.

The ZTE Light Tab II comes with 4GB of built-in storage that can hold hundreds of photos, taken with either the front-facing 0.3 megapixel camera or the larger 3Mp rear lens.

ZTE Light tablets are available in 30 countries around the world. The V9A is already on sale in Spain, Indonesia and Hong Kong. There is so far no confirmed UK release date, but ZTE says the device is coming soon.
