Angry Birds Space downloads shoot into the stratosphere.

Angry Birds has long been successful, but the latest game, Angry Birds Space, has catapulted the series to even greater heights.

The game’s developer, Finnish company Rovio, has announced that Angry Birds Space has become the fastest growing mobile game of all time, with 50 million downloads in just 35 days. The downloads were counted across iOS, Android, PC and Mac platforms, and smashed the company’s previous record - set by Angry Birds Rio.

In a statement, the company said: “Angry Birds Space hit 50 million downloads within 35 days, making it the fastest growing mobile game yet and breaking all our previous records. This has been simply amazing, and the whole Rovio team is thrilled to see such a fantastic reception for the game.”

It’s more good news for the Angry Birds brand, which has spread to toys, cartoon series and even a theme park in Finland.

Angry Birds Space isn’t the only mobile game to become a smash hit in the last few weeks. OMGPop’s social drawing game Draw Something has seen similar success, also reaching more than 50 million downloads, albeit not as quickly as its feathered rival.
