Huawei launches the 6.68mm thick Ascend P1 S at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show.
Chinese mobile manufacturer Huawei has unveiled what it is describing as “the world’s slimmest smartphone”.
The Huawei Ascend P1 S is 6.68mm thick, over 1mm thinner than Motorola’s “impossibly thin” Motorola RAZR, which was launched in October.
Huawei also claim that the Ascend P1 S is the “fastest and most compact smartphone in its class” and offers the “fastest multi-tasking, video replay and gaming experience in its class”.
The latter of these boasts is backed up by the device’s dual-core 1.5Ghz processor, which is almost twice as powerful as the A5 processor that powers Apple’s iPhone 4S.
The Ascend P1 S uses the latest version of Google’s Android mobile operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich, giving it the edge on other high-end Android handsets such as the HTC Sensation.
Huawei’s new baby also packs a 4.3in super AMOLED touchscreen, which is almost an inch bigger than that of the iPhone 4S. The super AMOLED technology makes screens brighter and reduces sunlight reflection and power consumption.
Alongside the Ascend P1 S, launched at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, Huawei also unveiled the Ascend P1, which has similar features to the P1 S, but is just over 1mm thicker due to it having a bigger battery.
Both handsets come with an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera and 1.3Mp high-definition (HD) front-facing camera with dual-flash LED and full HD video-capture.
The Ascend P1 S and P1 will be available in black, white and pink - with more colours to come - when they go on sale in April.
