Smartphone manufacturers consider waterproofing handsets.
How many times have you ruined phones when they accidently end up in the wash via the back pocket of your jeans? Well, technology firm HzO could be about to come to your rescue.
The company has created a treatment that waterproofs every “nook and cranny” of your beloved phone by coating its innards with a “nano-thin film containing highly effective, water-repelling properties.”
The technology was showcased at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this month, where a range of mobiles treated with the Waterblock technology were given a public dunking.
HzO claims the treatment will be invisible so will not ruin the look of your sleek handset, but will protect it should the worst happen as you are visiting the public loos.
The technology will doubtless be of interest to a range of other manufacturers. For example, in creating headphones for swimmers, or for digital camera designers seeking to solve the humidity malfunction that regularly strikes amateur photographers at the wrong moment.
It can also be applied to other technology slightly less prone to taking a dip, including iPods, tablets and even hearing aids.
A representative of HzO told Pocket-lint: “We showed the Samsung chairman the technology with a Samsung Galaxy S that we had coated with HzO and he couldn’t believe his eyes”. He added that “we expect HzO to be in next season’s phones”.
The company is currently in talks with a number of manufacturers interested in the waterproofing technology.
