Future cameraphones will take sharper and brighter photographs without using a flash, with Sony’s Exmor R 16.4Mp lens.
Cameraphones will be able to capture clearer, sharper and more luminous photographs than ever before, with the introduction of a new super lens.
Electronics giant Sony has developed the world’s first 16.4Mp image sensor suitable for mobile phones that, aside from snapping top-notch images, can illuminate pictures without using a flash.
That’s because the layout of Sony’s “Exmor R” image sensor has been redesigned so that sunlight reaches its light-sensitive parts first. In current lenses the sunlight first passes through electronic parts and wiring.
The result will be cameraphones able to capture well-lit photographs without using a flash - good news for phone manufacturers constantly looking for ways to remove parts from their mobiles in order to make them smaller.
Simon Piper, business development at Mobilechoices.co.uk, said: “Sony’s latest lens will create a new breed of mobile photographers who no longer need expensive standalone cameras to capture life’s best moments.”
Sony plans to release its Exmor R image sensor to phone manufacturers in January 2011. It’s still unknown when the first 16.4Mp cameraphone will be available to buy.
