Electronics giant's debut smartphone on pre-order ahead of UK release.
The first Panasonic smartphone to be released in Europe is now available for pre-order, just days ahead of its actual launch. Priced around £365, the Panasonic Eluga is set for UK release on 24 April but the first retailers are already taking advance orders for the highly-anticipated device.
Powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor the Panasonic Eluga runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread but is upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It's packed with 512MB of RAM and an 8-megapixel camera, as well as NFC technology for contactless payments and other "swipe" capabilities.
With a thickness of just 7.8mm, it's a slender phone weighing just 103g. It's of similar dimensions to the ZTE Era and features the same size 4.3in display.
Interestingly, the Panasonic Eluga - first unveiled at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona back in February - adheres to the same IP57 design certificate as the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX, which means it is waterproof to a depth of 150cm for up to 30 minutes.
As well as the standard Panasonic Eluga, there will also be an upmarket Eluga Power handset with a 5in high-definition (HD) display and a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor.
