From 1 October, you’ll have to pay if you want a “Bumper” that fixes the iPhone 4’s antenna reception.

The iPhone 4 case that resolves the smartphone’s infamous reception issue will only be given away for free by Apple until 30 September.

If you buy the iPhone 4 after that date then Apple won’t give you a free “bumper” case, designed to stop the smartphone from dropping calls and losing most of its signal strength when held in a certain way.

Existing iPhone 4 owners or anyone who buys the iPhone 4 before 30 September can still apply for a free case until that date. To get a free case you must download the iPhone 4 Case Program app from the App Store.

Apple hasn’t said why it’s ending the free case program on 30 September, but has previously stated that the problem is “even smaller than we originally thought”.
